Toddler Closet Remodel
This summer I realized that our toddler’s closet needed to be completely redone so it was easy to access all of his clothing as well as store his seasonal items. It’s a small closet but this project made it look bigger! We needed a budget friendly way to do it so this is what we did:
First: We took out the old shelf and pulled absolutely everything out. We opted out of painting to save time and money since the door would only be open when we get something out.
Next: We took measurements and decided we wanted a long shelf all the way across the top for seasonal storage and then added 3 shelves down the left side. I wanted there to be plenty of space in the bottom of the closet.
Lastly: We added a clothes rod that only goes 2/3 of the way across.
Once we got all the shelves in place, I took to finding the right storage baskets because I love to organize! There were 2 things that were important for me. I wanted his dirty clothes basket accessible so he could put his dirty clothes in it and I wanted his shoes in an organizer on the door so he could reach them.
I got these baskets to store his clothes for the seasons and clothes that don’t fit him yet. When we put the shelves down the wall on the left side I wanted baskets big enough to hold his clothes for the week. His shirts are in one, and his pants in another.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to like these rope baskets but they have worked really well! We use 3 for clothes and one sits in the bottom of the closet for his dirty clothes. He loves helping me with laundry so when I tell him to put his dirty clothes in the basket he gets excited.
It’s the same reason I put this shoe organizer on the inside of the closet door. He loves getting to pick out his shoes and then putting them back in the pockets. It gives him a little independence and he loves it! Lastly, the rod works because the only thing that gets hung are his dress shirts and polos that he wears to church.
One thing I love about how we did this project, is that we can add shelves down the right side later if we need more storage in the future!
