Favorite Books

If I could choose between binge watching Gilmore Girls, or curling up on the couch with a blanket, coffee, and a book… well, if you know me you know which one I would choose. If you don’t know me, Gilmore Girls is my favorite show but I love reading enough to turn it off and open a book! Especially, if it’s a good book that draws me in and is impossible to put down! I got my love for reading as a kid when I started the Nancy Drew books. I would actually love to have every one of them on my bookshelf one day. I loved the mystery of Nancy Drew. When I got older, I was introduced to Karen Kingsbury’s books. Talk about not being able to close a book until it’s finished! Then I was told the best way to read her books was to start with book one of the first family series she wrote. Now I have every book she has ever written on my bookshelf and have no intention of ever getting rid of them! I thought it was time I shared some favorite authors and books with you in case you are looking for some new reads!

Lets start with Karen Kingsbury! I would say her books fall under the Christian fiction category. Romance, family, redemption, friendship, hardship, she covers it all and you will not be able to put them down! Obviously, my recommendation is to read ALL of her books, but I will list a few for you:

Angels Walking Series

3 Books: A second chances story about a washed-up baseball player, the love he left behind, and the miracles that might save them both.

First Baxter Family Series

5 Books: Redemption series about the Baxter family―their fears and desires, strengths and weaknesses, losses and victories. Each book explores key relationship themes as well as the larger theme of redemption.

Truly, Madly, Deeply

In love for the first time, a son’s decisions about the future divides his family. A beautiful, heartfelt story. This is a stand-alone title.

Two Weeks

A heart-wrenching and redemptive story about a couple desperately waiting to bring their adopted child home and a young mother about to make the biggest decision of her life.

Baxter Family Children

Karen Kingsbury and her son Tyler recently wrote a series together called Baxter Family Children that is geared toward younger readers and I cannot wait until my children are old enough for us to read them together!

For what most would consider “self help” books, Lysa Terkeurst writes excellent books with lots of wisdom for wives and mothers. My favorites by her would definitely have to be The Best Yes and Uninvited. Sometimes, during difficult seasons I like to read one or two chapters of her book at the end of my devotion time. She also has some devotionals you can buy and work through alone or with a group.

Other great authors I would recommend would be…

Terri Blackstock or Dee Henderson if you like suspense and thrillers:
