Lessons I’ve Learned As A Mom

Since I became pregnant at the end of 2024, I have been thinking about all the things that were so new to me when I had my son in 2021. I was a new mom dealing with postpartum anxiety trying to remember everything I was told about raising a baby. There is so much I don’t want to take for granted in the upcoming newborn season.

This is not advice. It’s just thoughts from a mom that experiences the highs and lows of motherhood and wanted to share what that has taught me these last 3 years.

  1. Never say never.

  2. Follow your momma gut. Always.

  3. Sleep training is not for everyone.

  4. Don’t compare your child to another.

  5. When you are at your lowest, pray.

  6. Rock them as often as you’d like.

  7. It’s your baby, you cannot “hog” them.

  8. You don’t have to take unsolicited advice from anyone.

  9. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

  10. When you feel alone, you are not.

  11. Some babies don’t like sleep.

  12. PICK YOUR BATTLES!!

  13. Play dates are for the moms too.

  14. A little encouragement goes a long way.

  15. Kids thrive when they get quality time with you.

  16. The housework can wait.

  17. Hug your babies.

  18. Tell them you love them. Alot.

  19. Kids save their hard feelings for you, but that’s because you are their safe place, momma.

  20. Kids have bad days too.

  21. At the end of the day, when mom guilt creeps in, forgive yourself and remember your baby felt loved.

  22. Motherhood is not a one-size-fits-all.

  23. It’s okay to listen to other moms. You can respect their opinion without changing your own.

  24. Children are smarter than you think. They are watching and listening.

  25. Our children show us grace, we must do the same.

  26. Set your expectations low so you don’t miss out on the candid moments. Chances are they won’t react the way we want them to. If you have high expectations, you will be disappointed.

  27. Kids will spill things. Don’t let your first reaction be the one they see. You have accidents too.

  28. Routines are not for everyone.

  29. The days truly are long. But I promise the years are short!

  30. Caffeine really is absolutely necessary.

  31. Make sure you children are careful but help them build their confidence and teach them to be brave.

  32. They learn more from you than they do anyone else.

  33. You don’t have to wait until they are older to teach them about Jesus.

  34. Take them to church. Even if you spend more time than you want in the nursery. It matters.

Motherhood is not always easy, but it is a high calling and a beautiful ministry! Whether you have one child or many, you got this!

What are some things you have learned since becoming a mother?
