Cream of Chicken

 
 

My husband won’t let me buy canned cream of chicken anymore because he loves the taste of the homemade so much better! It takes less than 15 minutes to make and makes any recipe that calls for cream of chicken taste so much better!


Homemade Cream of Chicken

Serving size: equivalent to one 10.5oz can

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 1/2 tbsp flour

  • 3/4 cups chicken broth

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 1 heaping tbsp of better than bouillon chicken

  • Salt and Pepper

Directions:

  1. Place olive oil and onion powder in a pan. Heat on medium heat for 2 minutes then melt butter.

  2. As soon as the butter has melted stir in the flour.

  3. Once you have made a roux with the butter and flour, add in chicken broth, whole milk, chicken bouillon, and salt and pepper.

  4. Stir continuously until you get the thickness you want.

Notes:

  • Make sure to stir every few seconds so it does not stick to the pan

  • you can replace with gluten free flour and non dairy milk, just be aware that it will not thicken up as much.

  • You can use 1 tsp of poultry seasoning if you don’t have the better than bouillon.
