Christmas Date Night Ideas
The holidays sometimes feel like complete chaos. There are so many events taking place, the thought of finding time to have a few hours with your spouse feels daunting. Date night doesn’t always have to be planned. It doesn’t mean you have to get all dressed up, find a sitter, and leave the house for a while.
Let me share some ideas that we are implementing for our December date nights!
Grab coffee and drive around to look at Christmas lights. This one you can do with your child if you don’t have a sitter. It’s an added bonus if your child falls asleep in the car and you decide to make it an impromptu drive!
Hot chocolate bar and Christmas movie. Get everything to make different hot chocolates and put it on a tray and watch a Christmas movie! This one you can do as an at home date night with or without your kids home. If your kids are home, you can just wait until they are in bed.
Make a Christmas themed appetizer and dessert. I see so many themed appetizers and desserts around the holidays and I always want to try them but don’t take the time to do it. It would be a great way to spend quality time with your spouse and make yummy food to eat on your date! I attached a recipe card for a festive recipe to try!
Wrap Christmas gifts together. I dread the wrapping part of gifts. I love picking the wrapping paper and ribbons, but wrapping is a daunting task to me. However, last year my husband helped me, and we had fun wrapping the gifts together so I can’t wait to do that again this year! You could even turn it into a contest to see who can wrap gifts the fastest.
Christmas music and board games. This time of year is cold! What would be better than grabbing takeout, getting cozy, turning on Christmas music, and playing board games?! It’s a great way to spend quality time with your spouse.
There are so many ways to spend quality time with your spouse during the holiday season. Go Christmas shopping together, make a charcuterie board to snack on while you watch a movie or wrap gifts, or throw on festive colors and try a new restaurant! Every year we get home late on Christmas Eve and stay up late drinking cocoa, putting all the presents under the tree, and talking about how excited we are for Christmas morning. It’s even better since we had our son because he’s at the stage where opening presents is fun!
This year I really began to appreciate when my husband would come home after we had both had a long day and just give me a long hug or make a point to stop and kiss me while making dinner. During this season, I encourage you to take the time to do that. Kiss your spouse as you are walking in to your work party. Tell them you love them and are happy to be there with them. Give them a hug before you walk out the door and tell them how nice they look. Don’t underestimate the little things this season. I love date nights and quality time, but the small acts of love he shows me means a great deal too!
Here are some fun things for those date nights that you stay in!
